Carylann Loeppky Floating Portraits January 14th - 27th Jeffrey Boone Gallery at the Parking Spot 8 East Cordova St, Vancouver, BC www.JeffreyBooneGallery.com www.ParkingSpot.ca Loeppky is a self-taught painter focusing on female portraiture drawn from imagination. Finding inspiration in an 'old masters' glazing technique she draws on layering effects frequently employed in her graphic design work. Loose brushwork creates facial features that are often more suggested than rendered. The subjects tend to be vague and elusive and, although not in reference to any source, they seem familiar or reminiscent of other times and places - it could be the 18th century or the 1980's. These small pictures - some only 2' x 2' - have a sense of intimacy and preciousness that belie their whimsical titles - Heidi Claire; Penny Less and Lynne O. Liam and so on.
