ANDREW POMMIER – AT THE TIME OF FEAR
APRIL 16 – MAY 21, 2011
gallery hours: Tue, Thu, Sat 2pm – 7pm
»At
the Time of Fear« introduces new works in oil of canadian artist Andrew
Pommier. These paintings explore a minimalist perspective of shape,
form, abstraction, and colour, while keeping within a context of
portraiture. The paintings in this show take the established conventions
of portraiture and strip them down to their most formal elements in
order to provide a foundation for the works minimalist explorations.
Masks
allow us to hide our individuality, and humanity, and allows a means
for reinvention of character. The anonymity allows one to hide in plain
view and the freedom to strip away any preconception of who one is, or
who one should be, its dominating feature is the creation of fear, but
it results in absolute freedom for the wearer.
Andrew’s graphics
have graced the bottoms of such top brands as Toy Machine and Girl
Skateboards. He continues to be the key producer of graphics for skater
owned Momentum Wheel Co., and has lent his name to many signature
products from adidas shoes to the Zune MP3 player to Kokanee beer cans.
He’s also had a long term association with Southern California based
RVCA Clothing who’s music program supports bands like Modest Mouse,
Animal Collective and Broken Social Scene.
